Concerts of Prayer
In March we began monthly prayer meetings to pray especially for our congregations and of the Lord’s work around the world. The idea is an old one. Jonathan Edwards urged New England churches of his day to join in “concerts of prayer” for the “the revival of religion and the advancement of Christ’s kingdom on the earth”. When at a later date, the Baptist churches of Northamptonshire, England took up the challenge it led to the launch of the modern missionary movement and William Carey’s ministry in India.
We are not in the same class as Edwards or Carey, but we can appeal to the same Lord. So, on the first Tuesday of the month at 8.30 pm we are gathering in each congregation to pray for one another and God’s larger purpose in the world.
